Kurdish Singer Mahsun K. Releases A Movie About Kurds

The movie is called - I Saw the Sun – and it tells the story of three Kurdish families in Northern Kurdistan and in the province of Kars. The families have to leave their homes because of the Turkish- Kurdish conflict. Two of the families leave of to Istanbul and the third to the mountains of Norway where they have relatives.
Mahsun Kirmizigül is from the province of Amed in Northern Kurdistan and has never denied his Kurdish identity. He is known in Kurdistan but he is a star in Turkey and in the Arabic world. His album ”Yikilmadim” from 1998 sold over 2 million.
He sings mainly in Turkish and has very few songs in Kurdish. That is because of the law and regulation that Turkey had for many years, where basically the Kurdish language was forbidden.
More and more Kurdish artists and personality are now coming out and passionately working for the awareness of the Kurdish cause and the oppression the Kurds are going through. Hopefully their steps will have a role in strengthening the brotherhood between the people in Kurdistan and Turkey plus less war and bloodshed between Turks and Kurds.
